Spy adventure 'XXX' tops box office

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- "XXX" crossed-out the competition at the weekend box office as the Vin Diesel spy adventure claimed the No. 1 spot with $44.5 million.

"Signs" slipped to No. 2 in its second week with $29.4 million, while the family friendly "Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams" collected $16.7 million over the weekend, bringing its total to $25 million since debuting Wednesday.

Among other new films, the Clint Eastwood police drama "Blood Work" came in fifth with $5.1 million and the Jennifer Aniston drama "The Good Girl" debuted in limited release with a respectable $151,642 in four theaters.

The top 20 movies at North American theaters Friday through Sunday.
